Houston Man Sentenced to 60 Years for Continuous Sexual Assault of Children

HOUSTON, TX (January 31, 2024) A 50-year-old Houston man, Daniel A. Reyes-Gomez, has been sentenced to a 60-year prison term without the possibility of parole for the continuous sexual assault of two girls, ages 7 and 12, beginning in 2020. Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg emphasized the importance of trials in such cases to ensure justice for the young victims. Reyes-Gomez was convicted by a Harris County jury and chose to have his punishment determined by a judge, who imposed the sentence on Thursday. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Danielle Oxford and Rachel Barlow, specializing in Crimes Against Children and Trafficking/Exploitation, respectively. Under Texas law, Reyes-Gomez is required to serve the full duration of his sentence.

The incident took place on Friday, January 5th, 2024, around 10 pm, in the 4600 block of Verone Street. Two suspects arrived in a newer model, dark grey Cadillac. The driver stepped out and fired several rounds from a rifle into the complainant’s vehicle. A $5,000 cash reward is being offered for information leading to the identification, charging, or arrest of the suspects. Tonnette Carter was apprehended on January 27, 2024, following a vehicle pursuit that ended in front of Memorial Hermann. The incident began when a deputy from Constable Mark Herman's Office attempted a traffic stop in the 3800 block of Atascocita Road. Carter, the driver, did not comply, leading to a chase that concluded in the 14200 block of East Sam Houston North, in front Memorial Hermann. Carter showed several signs of intoxication. The vehicle was trapped with water still covering the road at the time of the incident.
