Eddie Miller found guilty in ambush shooting that killed off-duty deputy outside Houston bar

HOUSTON, TX – Eddie Miller was found guilty today in the ambush-style shooting that left one off-duty Harris County Precinct 4 deputy dead and two others injured outside a north Houston sports bar. The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, outside the 45 Norte Bar and Lounge. Authorities say Miller opened fire on three off-duty deputies who were working a second job at the bar. Deputy Kareem Atkins was killed during the attack. Deputy Darryl Garrett sustained serious injuries, and Deputy Juqaim Barthen was also shot. The jury’s decision follows a trial centered on the events leading up to and during the shooting. HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Fire Department is currently responding to a 3-alarm warehouse fire at 2525 McAllister in Northwest Houston. Officials are urging the public to avoid the area due to the presence of heavy firefighting equipment. At this time, the cause of the fire and the number of injuries, if any, remain unknown. Video footage from the Citizen app shows heavy smoke rising from the building as fire crews work to contain the flames. More information will follow if it becomes available.

No additional details about the man’s identity or cause of death have been released at this time but the circumstances surrounding the death are currently under investigation. HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A woman riding a bicycle was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday morning in west Harris County. https://youtu.be/AGq7KLfsRwM The crash occurred around 4:29 a.m. on April 13, 2025, in the 7500 block of State Highway 6 South at the intersection of Empanada Drive. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Ashley Mae Nelson was riding westbound across the highway. Her husband was riding a bicycle directly behind her at the time of the crash. Nelson crossed all lanes of traffic outside of a crosswalk and failed to yield the right of way when she was struck by a red Ford or Toyota sedan traveling northbound in the number one lane.
