Eddie Miller found guilty in ambush shooting that killed off-duty deputy outside Houston bar
HOUSTON, TX – Eddie Miller was found guilty today in the ambush-style shooting that left one off-duty Harris County Precinct 4 deputy dead and two others injured outside a north Houston sports bar.
The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, outside the 45 Norte Bar and Lounge. Authorities say Miller opened fire on three off-duty deputies who were working a second job at the bar.
Deputy Kareem Atkins was killed during the attack. Deputy Darryl Garrett sustained serious injuries, and Deputy Juqaim Barthen was also shot.
The jury’s decision follows a trial centered on the events leading up to and during the shooting. Miller was 19 years old at the time of the offense.
