DEERPARK, TX – A pipeline fire broke out this morning in the 8900 block of Spencer Highway, prompting an immediate response from the City of Deerpark
The incident took place around 9:55 a.m., prompting an immediate emergency response. The pipeline, owned by Energy Transfer, is currently under investigation to determine the cause of the fire. The chemical Y Grade NGL (liquid natural gas) is burning.
Local authorities, including the City of La Porte, ISD, and San Jacinto College, have implemented evacuations and shelter-in-place orders for nearby areas, including HEB, Walmart, Heritage Elementary, College Park Elementary, James H. Baker, and San Jacinto College.
A temporary reunification site has been established at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center on Thirteenth Street for evacuees. Additionally, Faithbridge Church, located at 4711 Center Street, Deer Park, TX 77536, is serving as a shelter for those affected by the incident.
Several surrounding fire departments also responded, including the Atascocita Fire Department and several state resources have been deployed according to Texas State Governor Abbott.
About 5 homes have caught on fire as of 1:30 p.m. according to Deer Park Mayor Mouton during a press conference Monday afternoon. Efforts are being made to stop the fire from spreading to more homes.
