HOUSTON, TX – A man is dead following after a garbage truck slammed into him on the Eastex Freeway.
The crash occurred in the 14400 block of the Eastex Freeway just after 5 a.m.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the man, identified ass Yunier Laza Chavez was in a 2003 Honda Accord headed northbound. A 2018 Mack chassis-cab (CMV) being used as a garbage truck was also traveling northbound.
At one point, police say Chavez swerved across all traffic lanes. The operator of the garbage truck attempted to avoid striking him by swerving into lane number 4, but Chavez also suddenly swerved backi into lane number 4. The operator of the garbage truck was not able to avoid Chavez and struck him.
EMS responded and Chavez did not show any signs of life and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The operator of the garbage truck showed no signs on intoxication and was released from the scene.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
