Harris County SWAT Apprehends Barricaded Suspect After Erratic Driving on Neighbors’ Yards and Threatening Officer With Gun

(ATASCOCITA, Texas) June 18, 2024 — A 53-year-old man was arrested by SWAT following a disturbance in the 19000 block of Match Play Drive in Atascocita last night.

The incident began shortly after 8 p.m. in northeast Harris County when the suspect was reported to be driving erratically, damaging several neighbors’ yards, and crashing into his own garage twice. The man’s wife arrived, leading to a verbal altercation during which he threatened her with a gun, causing her to flee.

When precinct four officers arrived, they found the suspect armed with a pistol. He threatened to kill an officer and retreated into his house. Officers established a perimeter and attempted to negotiate, but the suspect refused to communicate, even after his wife returned to assist.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer and aggravated assault against a family member. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office SWAT, bomb unit, and Air Operations Unit responded, setting up a secure perimeter to attempt further negotiation.

The suspect eventually surrendered without incident after seeing a bunch of armored vehicles and a heavy police presence. He was examined by EMS and found to have no injuries. The suspect was transported to the Joint Processing Center for booking on the two felony charges.
