HOUSTON, TX – An 8-year-old girl was pronounced deceased after being struck by a vehicle in the 9400 block of Concourse Drive earlier this afternoon.
The accident occurred around 3:44 p.m. According to Lt. McLean with the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division, officers from the Westside Division responded within four minutes of the call. Houston Fire Department crews transported the child to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the child had just been dropped off by a school bus from the Alief Independent School District which already left when she darted into the road. Surveillance footage confirmed that the driver did not have time to stop. There were no signs of intoxication or speeding involved. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The parents of the child have been notified.
