Road rage leads to self-defense shooting and citizen’s arrest by victim in Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A road rage incident escalated into a self-defense shooting Friday night, leaving one man injured and subsequently arrested by the victim in the 5300 block of North McCarty.

The confrontation began around 9:30 p.m. on the 610 Loop, where a man in his mid-40s engaged in reckless driving, including swerving and brake-checking, targeting a vehicle occupied by a 20-year-old driver and his pregnant girlfriend.

According to police, the aggressor pursued the couple off the freeway. At one point, he started to go the wrong way to get in front of them, swerved in front of their car, and blocked them before running up to the car with his hands near his pockets. Fearing for their safety, the young driver, a former security guard, fired shots in self-defense, striking the aggressor multiple times.

The victim then exited his car, handcuffed the aggressor, and called 911. Both he and his girlfriend remained at the scene and were unharmed.

No charges have been filed at this time. If you have any information, you are urged to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
