BARC Houston to host Love for the Holidays adoption event Dec. 21-22 with free adoptions

HOUSTON, TX – The holiday season is about family, and this year, families have the chance to expand their circle of love with a shelter pet. BARC, the City of Houston’s Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, and Petco Love are joining forces to bring thousands of pets together with loving families during the “Love for the Holidays” adoption and foster event on December 21 and 22.

The event will feature over 7,500 shelter pets across Texas, including puppies, kittens, dogs, cats, and other companion animals, ready to be adopted or fostered. Participating shelters, including BARC, will waive all adoption fees, making it even easier to give these pets the holiday gift of a loving home. For those not ready for a long-term commitment, shelters will also simplify the fostering process, providing pet supplies and medical care for temporary homes.

The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. on both days at BARC, located at 3300 Carr St., Houston, TX, as well as other shelters across Texas, including Austin, Dallas-Ft. Worth, El Paso, Rio Grande Valley, and San Antonio. For details on locations near you, visit PetcoLove.org.

Adoptions are first-come, first-served, with adopters required to present a valid ID and proof of address. For more information, visit BARC’s Adoption Page or email BARCadoptions@houstontx.gov.

Celebrate the holidays with the joy and unconditional love of a shelter pet. Whether adopting or fostering, you’ll be giving a pet the ultimate gift—love and family.
