Shooter arrested in killing of off-duty Harris County Constable Deputy

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – The alleged shooter in the killing of off-duty Harris County Precinct 3 Deputy Constable Omar Ursin has been taken into custody.

According to court documents, Douglas Wooten rolled down the back window of a vehicle and fired four shots at the car Ursin was driving. Ursin then crashed into a tree and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Court documents also reveal that Wooten claimed he fired because Ursin allegedly pointed a gun at him and others. However, investigators stated that Ursin’s weapon was holstered at the time.

Wooten was arrested on November 27, 2024 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, more than two years after the August 2022 shooting. The victim, a six-year veteran deputy and Channelview native, was killed while driving home after picking up dinner for his family on Madera Run Parkway in Atascocita.

Two other suspects who were in the vehicle with Wooten (middle), identified as Ahsim Taylor Jr. (left) and Jayland Womack (right) were also charged with murder in connection with the 2022 shooting.

If you have any information about the shooting you are urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
