Suspect charged, wanted in fatal shooting at West Rankin Road

HOUSTON, TX – Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 1050 West Rankin Road around 12:20 p.m. on Monday (Nov. 18).

Elijah D. Johnson, 32, is charged with murder in the 180th State District Court. He is not currently in custody. An October 2024 booking photo of Johnson is available.

The victim, a 34-year-old male, has not yet been publicly identified, pending notification of family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to Houston police, officers responded to reports of a shooting in a strip center parking lot at the above location and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Further investigation and witness statements identified Johnson as the suspect. After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, a murder charge was filed against him. Johnson remains at large.
