HOUSTON, TX – A fatal crash involving an older Corvette and an 18-wheeler occurred early Saturday morning on 288 Southbound, between Almeda Genoa and Beltway 8.
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. According to witnesses, the Corvette was traveling at a high speed when it failed to avoid the 18-wheeler, colliding with its rear. The impact pushed the Corvette into the center median divider wall, where it came to a stop.
A minor fire ignited upon impact, but nearby citizens quickly worked to extinguish the flames. Authorities believe the fatality was caused by the collision’s impact rather than the fire.
The male driver of the Corvette was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler, a female, sustained neck and back pain but is expected to recover.
The 18-wheeler involved in the crash was owned and operated by 5LS Live Learn Lead Love Loyalty L.L.C., a company based out of Atascocita, Texas, and was pulling an Amazon trailer at the time of the collision.
If you have any information about the crash, you are urged to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
