Texas deputies intercept $2.2 million marijuana shipment during midnight traffic stop

SAN JACINTO COUNTY, Texas – On October 25, 2024, just after midnight, San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies conducted a traffic stop of a commercial vehicle near Lee Turner and Trails End Roads. The investigation led to the seizure of 283.8 pounds of packaged marijuana, intended for delivery to the Northeastern United States. The seized load holds an estimated street value of $2.2 million, according to the HIDTA drug task force.

The 2003 Peterbilt truck and trailer were impounded for further investigation. John Rodriquez, 54, was taken into custody on charges of Felony Possession of Marijuana. Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Randy Ellisor set bond at $600,000, with conditions including restrictions from leaving Texas or the U.S., surrendering his passport, and monthly reporting until trial.

The interception, led by Patrol Lieutenant R. Nash, Deputy Hughes, and Sergeant Saintes, highlights the ongoing flow of illegal drugs through San Jacinto County.
