HOUSTON, TX – A wrong-way driver was killed and another driver was critically injured in a head-on collision on South Loop West at Tierwester around 4:48 a.m. Sunday, according to the Houston Police Department.
Police said the wrong-way driver, a man believed to be in his 40s, crashed into a Suburban. He was the only occupant of his vehicle. Investigators do not know where he entered the freeway.
The Suburban’s driver was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition. Police said he showed no signs of impairment. It was unclear whether he would survive.
While officers blocked the roadway, another truck struck two patrol vehicles. That driver showed no signs of impairment but told officers he was not paying attention, police said.
The officers were outside their vehicles, and no one was injured in the second crash.
