HOUSTON, TX – Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at the Alief Square Apartments early Tuesday morning.

The shooting occurred around 12:55 a.m. at the complex in the 7500 block of Cook Road. Houston police confirmed that one man was fatally shot, and another was wounded.

The suspect, Fernando Amaya, 17, is charged with murder, aggravated assault of a family member, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 488th State District Court. A second unidentified male suspect remains at large. The identity of the deceased victim, 41, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to the HPD Homicide Division, officers responded to a person down call at the complex and found one man with an apparent gunshot wound outside an apartment. Inside the apartment, officers located an unresponsive man who had also been shot. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the man deceased, while the injured male was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Further investigation and witness statements identified Amaya as a suspect. Evidence from the scene determined that Amaya and the unidentified suspect arrived and fled in a white full-size SUV of unknown make or model.

Amaya was later arrested at a family member’s residence the same morning. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted, and Amaya was subsequently charged. The second suspect remains at large.
