Five Months After Crash, No Charges Filed Against Former Deputy Involved in Fatal Incident

HOUSTON, TX – Nearly five months following a tragic accident on August 24 at the intersection of 2700 Canal Street, which resulted in the death of 28-year-old Ricardo Resendez, no charges have been filed against former Harris County Precinct 6 Deputy Rigo Vivar.

According to the initial press release by the Houston Police Department (HPD), Vivar was driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound on Canal Street when he skipped traffic, driving the wrong way into the westbound lanes. This maneuver led to a collision with Resendez’s silver Dodge Avenger, which was turning onto North Live Oak Street.

Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced Resendez deceased at the scene, while Vivar was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

According to the Harris County District Clerks website, no charges have been filed against the former deputy. Furthermore, the family states that despite the toxicology report being released a day after their last press conference, no one has contacted them regarding the case.
