HOUSTON, TX – According to the Houston Police Department, a Brazoria County Sheriff’s Deputy has passed away after being shot near the Dollar Tree store in the 9300 block of Stella Link Road, close to the 610 South Loop.
The deputy was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. He was identified as Deputy Vargas, a 17 year veteran of the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department. He leaves behind a wife and three children.
Police have identified the suspect as Robert Lee Davis, also known as Sean Christopher Davis, 56. He is described as a Black male, approximately 5’10”, weighing 200 pounds, and was last seen wearing a blue Nike hoodie with white lettering, blue jeans, and blue sneakers.
The suspect fled the scene on foot, and a search is ongoing. Residents are urged to avoid the area as authorities continue their investigation.
Several law enforcement agencies were spotted on scene including the U.S. Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force.
