Suspect in custody after police pursuit ends in crash on Westheimer

HOUSTON, TX – A police pursuit ended in a major crash late Friday night.

The incident began around 11:20 p.m. near South Gessner and Richmond, where Houston Police Department officers responded to an accident. Upon arrival, officers observed a male suspect in a vehicle with an open container and the distinct odor of alcohol. When officers attempted to detain the suspect, he fled the scene in his vehicle.

The suspect led officers on a brief chase. The first crash occurred when the suspect was near the intersection of Rogerdale and Westheimer, the suspect struck a third-party vehicle, though no injuries were reported. He continued driving and collided with another vehicle at the Westheimer and Briarpark intersection. Both vehicles involved in the second crash were disabled.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The individuals in the second third-party vehicle were also transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police recovered a firearm and open containers from the suspect’s vehicle. Officers are working with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to determine appropriate charges.
