Homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting on the South Freeway

HOUSTON, TX – A man was fatally shot in the HOV lanes of the 6000 block of South Freeway (South U.S. Highway 288) around 11:10 a.m. Monday (Nov. 18).

The victim, believed to be between 40 and 50 years old, has yet to be identified, pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to Houston police, officers responded to reports of a shooting and found the victim in the freeway’s median suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.

Witnesses stated that a male suspect was seen chasing the victim while firing a weapon. Officers located a man matching the suspect’s description nearby, but he fled on foot as they attempted to detain him. The suspect was later arrested on unrelated charges.

The investigation remains ongoing.
