Rockdale Teacher Arrested Following School Threat Posted Online

CAMERON, TX – A Rockdale Independent School District teacher, identified as 40-year-old Michael Smith of Caldwell, was arrested Thursday evening following an online threat directed at Rockdale High School.

The Milam County Sheriff’s Office initiated the investigation around 8 p.m. on October 24, 2024, after an anonymous threat appeared on a school webpage associated with Rockdale High School. Sheriff Mike Clore reported that the FBI and U.S. Secret Service assisted in tracing the threat’s IP address, leading investigators to a Rockdale High School teacher.

Upon being interviewed on campus, the teacher admitted to posting the threat and was subsequently taken into custody. Smith faces charges of Terroristic Threat and Making a False Report and is currently awaiting magistration.

Sheriff Clore thanked Rockdale ISD for promptly notifying authorities, emphasizing that the district’s cooperation highlights their commitment to school safety.
