HPD provides morning update on helicopter crash that killed four, including child near Downtown

HOUSTON, TX, Oct. 21, 2024 – Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division is assisting with an ongoing investigation led by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) following a tragic overnight incident in South Central Houston. Lieutenant Jonathan French provided an update this morning, detailing the coordinated response from Houston Police, the Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Houston Fire Department.

The incident has affected an area covering approximately four acres, with officers working throughout the night to secure the scene and collect evidence. Residents in the surrounding area have been urged to report any debris they may find to officers on the scene or by contacting the police department.

No civilian injuries have been reported, although there has been minor vehicle damage. The investigation is ongoing, with the Houston Police Department assisting the NTSB by conducting a detailed scene analysis, which is expected to take several hours.
