HOUSTON, TX – A homeowner was rushed during a home invasion by two young men in the 7100 block of Alderney.
The incident happened around 9:40 a.m. after the suspects knocked on the door and forced their way inside when the homeowner answered.
A vigilant neighbor witnessed the incident and promptly called 911. Officers from the Houston Police Department arrived on the scene in under four minutes, finding the door was open. Inside, they saw a woman and a young child in the living room.
As officers approached the right side of the residence, a suspect dressed in a hoodie fired at one of them, striking him in the leg. The officer returned fire but did not hit the suspect. Meanwhile, the second officer pursued the second suspect and arrested him inside the home. After securing the suspect, the officer applied a tourniquet to his injured colleague’s leg, providing lifesaving first aid.
Both suspects, Hispanic males aged between 20 and 25, were taken into custody. The suspect who shot the officer was apprehended nearby. Police are investigating the possibility of a third suspect, with teams from the DPS assisting in the search.
Officers recovered two guns, one from each suspect. The injured officer, a nine-year veteran, was treated for his wound and is currently in stable condition. The second officer, with approximately 12 years of service, administered first aid at the scene.
Authorities believe the suspects intended to burglarize the home. A white four-door vehicle, possibly a Honda, was seen driving near the scene and may be involved in the incident. The mother and child inside the residence were unharmed and are being assisted by victim services.
The incident is under review, and body camera footage is expected to be released within 30 days.
