Two Houston firefighters electrocuted while extinguishing a fire in Houston’s Fifth Ward

HOUSTON, TX – Two Houston firefighters were transported to a local hospital after being electrocuted while extinguishing a fire in Houston’s Fifth Ward.

The Houston Fire Department was first called to the 2600 block of Jensen around 3:45 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to the Houston Fire Department, firefighters arrived and found a 1-story commercial building on fire and made an offensive attack. The roof was ventilated and a primary search was conducted. A power line that was attached to the building was arching and CenterPoint was notified to secure the power. At one point, a live wire fell out of the drop-down ceiling and energized the floor area that had water.

Two firefighters came into contact with the energized water and were transported to the hospital.

A total of 37 personnel responded to the fire. The condition of the firefighters remain unknown at this time.

Less than one hour before that fire, another Houston firefighter was transported for heat exhaustion from an auto shop fire across town.
