Uber driver struck and killed by vehicle on freeway while trying to make repairs

HOUSTON, TX – An Uber driver was killed early Sunday morning after another vehicle struck his while he was trying to make repairs on the freeway.

This occurred on the East Freeway near Kress shortly before 4 a.m.

According to police, the Uber driver, in a Toyota Camry hit something that disabled his vehicle. He then moved to what he believed was the emergency lane but it was a moving lane of traffic. Both the rider and the driver exited the vehicle to see what was wrong. The rider got back into the vehicle and the Uber driver stayed outside of the vehicle to try and repair it.

At one point, another vehicle, believed to be a dark pickup truck struck the Toyota Camry. The Uber driver was in front of his car which ended up on top of him.

The Houston Fire Department pronounced the Uber driver deceased on scene.
