December 2, 2023. – A Houston Police Department (HPD) officer, Sergeant M. Valle, 38, sustained multiple gunshot wounds in an early morning on Saturday on the 7000 block of Harwin Drive. The confrontation also resulted in the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old armed suspect, whose identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The incident occurred around 1:15 a.m., involving officers from the Midwest Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team. During their investigation, officers encountered and briefly lost sight of the suspect. Sergeant Valle, while searching behind a building, was shot multiple times as the suspect fired into his vehicle. Despite his injuries, Sergeant Valle managed to exit his vehicle and return fire.
The suspect fled the scene but was later found near a building corner with gunshot wounds. First aid was administered to both the suspect and Sergeant Valle. The Houston Fire Department paramedics declared the suspect deceased at the scene. Sergeant Valle was transported to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center and is currently in stable condition.
Sergeant Valle, who joined the HPD in April 2007 and is assigned to the Midwest Patrol Division, discharged his duty weapon during the incident.
The HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office are conducting a standard investigation into the officer-involved shooting, as per protocol for such incidents within Houston city limits.
