HOUSTON, TX, AUGUST 13, 2023 – A fatal crash occurred on the 1400 block of Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) at approximately 12:55 a.m. on Sunday, August 13, resulting in one death. The victim, a 23-year-old male, was changing a tire on the right shoulder of the northbound lanes when he was struck by a gray Pontiac G6. Paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim dead. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is currently working to verify the identity of the deceased.

The driver of the Pontiac was taken to a hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries after showing signs of impairment. Subsequent tests determined the driver to be intoxicated. After his release from the hospital, the suspect, identified as Asdenys De Armas-Perez, 40, was charged with intoxication manslaughter and taken to Harris County Jail. A booking photo of De Armas-Perez, displaying injuries he sustained in the crash, has been made public. Charges have been filed in the 262nd State District Court.
