Victim Identified in Porter, Texas Shooting; MCTXSheriff’s Office Investigates Possible Homicide

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in the fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday night in Porter, Texas. Rufino Gutierrez, 34, was found dead with a gunshot wound at a residence on Holly Ridge.

Initially reported as a possible suicide, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Violent Crimes detectives are now treating the case as a homicide. The detectives, along with Crime Scene Investigators, are actively investigating the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding Gutierrez’s death.

The initial call came in at approximately 9:25 pm on April 23, 2023, when deputies responded to the 23000 block of Holly Ridge after receiving reports of a suicide involving a weapon. However, upon arriving at the scene and conducting a preliminary investigation, the authorities concluded that this was not a suicide, prompting the homicide investigation.

As this is an ongoing investigation, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has not released any further information or identified any suspects at this time. They urge anyone with information related to the case to come forward and contact the authorities.
